Media Catchall Post, Third Quarter
A few days later on this post than usual! And it's not going to be my most exciting one. And my reading pace, as must be obvious, is still disastrously off. What even is this year!
Music
I have started up a thing with one of my sisters where we text each other our song of the week every week, so I have a record this time! Songs of my summer included: "Cedar" by Gracie Abrams (Lydian mode!!!), several songs from the new Crane Wives album (specifically "Scars" and "Black Hole Fantasy"), some Chappell Roan, and "Tomorrow Is Today" by Billy Joel. And now it's the time of year when I help put on a musical, which means that my past month and my next 6-8 weeks are going to be a constant loop of that. Sigh. Some years it's more fun than others.
Movies
I don't think I've seen a single full-length movie in the past three months. Yikes!
TV Shows
Murder mysteries! Most of the way through season 2 of Murder She Wrote, watching the new season of Only Murders in the Building as it goes on, and watched all four seasons of the Frankie Drake Mysteries, a Canadian show set in the 20s that was wildly uneven but did have some very fun ladies in it. (And also actors from Killjoys, because Canada.) Also, the newest season of Antiques Roadshow! Not a vast amount of shows, but yes, lots of murder. I just like a mystery! (Also because of my AO3 hole I keep getting tempted by Emergency Responder Procedurals but am thus far holding out.) Oh, and I watched the first two episodes of Lovely Runner, a kdrama! I liked it but the rest of it isn't streaming anywhere I've got and I don't want yet another service, so I haven't continued, alas.
Other
I'm also behind on Dropout, but I have watched some Make Some Noise, and the first two episodes of Dimension 20: Escape from the Bloodkeep. My youtube watching has also remained fairly static! However, I did spectate some video games this summer, so may as well shout those out! I don't play games, but I like watching other people do so, so while visiting one set of friends I watched a whole bunch of Baldur's Gate 3, which is delightful good fun, and then while visiting other friends I watched some of the released demo version of Fields of Mistria, which is sweet as can be, and I'm reliably told that if you like Stardew Valley you'll like that!
D&D
I'm continuing to have a delightful time DMing, even if it feels a bit like log-rolling at times! We finished up our dungeon with the dead god, and then did another divine-related adventure at the opposite end of the life cycle, with a baby god getting created and some newly invested child saints getting lost as a result. So my party got to go chasing saints and also rescue children at the same time, an excellent combination! And let the paladin grapple a little bit with their semi-inevitable sainthood, which is one of my favorite threads to pull. And then I sent them to the fear dimension! By which I mean they jumped through a portal to rescue some underclassmen and then walked through endless versions of the same room that showed them their worst fears (my players willingly handed me lists of all their characters' greatest fears). The paladin almost got his skull ripped open by mind flayers and had to regrow some brain matter! Anyway, now they're doing a whimsical fetch quest for some very foolish star-crossed lovers.
Creative Projects
Writing-wise, I did a round of ficlets that was 15k total but inexplicably took me two months. Other than that, I've been working on an edit for my original work! Not super far into it yet, because again, Executive Dysfunction Summer, but not doing too badly at it, either! Slow and steady does it. For crafts, I finished that last seam on my dress from last time, and I have a skirt about half-sewn, whoops, should get back to that. But my biggest craft has been starting the embroidered Tortall map project! Updates are happening occasionally on tumblr for that one, but I'm having a really excellent time with it so far.
Things I'm Looking Forward To
I want to watch a bunch of things on Dropout, catching up on what I'm behind on and watching a bunch of Dimension 20! Other than that, not wildly excited about much media right now. D&D-wise, though, I'm just excited to keep going with this campaign, give the warlock some more to chew on since that summary up there was very paladin-heavy (though the saint adventure was based in her hometown, which was fun for the whole family), and then there's a lot going on with crafts! I have the map project going, of course, and I'm in the middle of a skirt, plus I have fabric for another skirt, and shot cotton for a shirt (though I don't have a shirt pattern I like yet and thus will need to mock some things up). Plus I don't know if I'm going to embroider or weave for anyone for holiday gifts! Lots to do, and little time to do it in!
And that's all until the end of the year!
